The tradition of English Pantomime has been around for well over a century now. During the Christmas season, theatre companies stage an over-the-top modern retelling of a classic fairy tale with plot twists, wordplay, and popular music. This year however with social distancing restrictions, it’s just not possible to provide a live theatre experience for audiences in person.

We do have a solution – a virtual performance online via ZOOM!

Ever wonder what would happen if familiar fairy tale characters were held accountable for their various crimes? Well, wonder no more… Coming this December, a feature presentation – “Sleeping Beauty: Every Rose has a Thorne” will be broadcast just in time for Christmas.

Chock full of twists and turns, music and laughter, a ragtag band of heroes try to thwart the evil Malevolent who has her sights set on casting Princess  Rose into a deep centuries-long slumber from which she will not wake. Thanks to fairy magic, time travel and the help of some unexpected characters along the journey, love may just conquer all in the end! Throw in some familiar music, cheesy puns, and over-the-top acting and you have the makings for great musical comedy!

“Sleeping Beauty: Every Rose has a Thorne” is the first in a series of seasonal pantomimes written by Hamilton-born Playwright Doug MacDougall who is no stranger to the world of pantomime as both actor/artist and Music/Stage Director with Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh and a veteran of numerous regional theatre productions in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) over the last 25 years.

Friends, family and theatregoers alike will enjoy this lively and hilarious new take on the legendary story in authentic Panto style. Come out and be part of the action in “Sleeping Beauty: Every Rose has a Thorne” cheering on our heroes, and booing the villains  – don’t forget – pantomime is suitable for all ages!!! The best value in virtual family entertainment!
